Frankenstein

This novel is, perhaps, the first, or one of the first, modern horror and science fiction novels, from the romantic era and of a Gothic type, and it gives the "starting shot" for more works of this style, especially in English-language literature, such as the stories of Edgar Allan Poe or the novels of H. G. Wells.
It lays the foundations of science fiction and touches on a series of important topics related to this genre, such as giving life to a creature by humans, etc.
The novel has been widely adapted to film.
