He first appeared in the 1984 movie "A Nightmare on Elm Street"; this was followed by five or six sequels, a 2010 remake, and crossover films such as "Freddy vs. Jason" (2003).
Essentially, he is a villain who wears a bladed glove and kills his victims—typically teenagers—within their nightmares. He is known for his green-and-brown striped sweater, his signature hat, and his bladed glove (which he crafted himself, as shown in his debut film).
His creator, Wes Craven, has stated that the character originated from strange events in Southeast Asia, where people died inexplicably while having nightmares. Craven also drew inspiration from an incident in his own childhood: after hearing noises, he saw a strange-looking man on the street.
All of this forms the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise, centered on the well-crafted and clearly defined character of Freddy Krueger—a figure that remains a cornerstone of modern horror cinema.
