H. P. Lovecraft
Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937), known for short as H. P. Lovecraft, was an American writer of horror and science fiction stories and poetry, mainly.
According to what is known about him, from his personal life, we can deduce that he was a bit misanthropic and that he stayed more or less away from the cities (a fact that can be contrasted with his renunciation of living in New York); so to speak, neither the world understood him nor he understood the world, a fundamental breeding ground to become a writer of cult horror stories once he had died.
And so it was: although his work had little repercussion while he was alive, and he published some of his works in magazines, in addition to being a ghost writer for other novelists, a small group of writers also took his work from possible future oblivion and published it and gave it the importance it required, for the pleasure of humanity.
His main work is a collection of horror / science-fiction stories that stands out for the universes he built, frequently outside the traditional horror environment and more attached to interdimensional travel and a long list of themes still incipient in literature. His legacy is extensive since adaptations to the screen (in a broad sense) are beginning to be made insistently, with great success many times; to mention one, we can name the two stories that are present in the Netflix series by Guillermo del Toro, his "Cabinet of Curiosities", but also many others. Role-playing games, board games, and some other products associated with horror and science-fiction literature have been published derived from the stories of this great -and cursed- writer.
