La verbena de la Paloma
Spearhead of the genre known as zarzuela, is the best known and the most representative. Belonging to the "género chico", or short zarzuela, that is, a shorter work, a little less than an hour. La verbena consists of a single act, divided into three scenes.
Without a doubt, the music, by maestro Bretón, as already mentioned, is the most representative of it, with a memorable and capricious melody at the same time as musical height, accompanied by all its development.
Also, the typical approach of Madrid in the 19th century, with its chulapas, the serene, and other characters, give this zarzuela a special feel.
