Makoto Shikai (1973-) is a Japanese film director. Possible follower in the thread of internationally renowned anime directors started by Hayao Miyazaki, but this parallelism denied by Shinkai himself, the director is characterized by having a very melancholic and romantic vision of life that he conveys in many of his films, set in Japan today and starring teenagers.
After being labeled corny, he has managed to bend that claim by directing one of the most beautiful interpretations of the legend of the eastern red thread: Kimi no Na wa, an acclaimed 2016 movie that is already a cult film. His films are also characterized by an overwhelming visual section, very colorful and detailed.
