Artificial intelligence breaks into music

Today we are going to talk about an important topic, which is the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music world. Today there are some computer programs capable of creating complete songs from scratch, including composition, interpretation, production, even lyrics; In other words, everything.

AI could already do this at a plastic level, that is, at the level of creating images, realistic or not, using simple commands (the so-called prompts), and now it is stalking the music industry.

Well, after having tested some of the tools available for music, such as SUNO, we can say that this program can indeed create complete songs from scratch with a few commands, but we have to say that these compositions are nothing more than "library music." In other words, at the current state of the art, AI is capable of making backing music, "noname" music, that typical music you hear in the supermarket and you don't know what it is. This does not mean that things could progress in the future, of course, so we must be very careful.

The subject of music is complex and peculiar. Recently, in an article in this same medium, we came to count the number of famous songs that exist on the face of the earth and we affirmed, according to our criteria, that there are no more than a thousand of them. There are music groups that have only managed to find one interesting song (for example, the song "Hey, soul sister" by the band Train (we cannot make a complete record for this group because they only have this hit, according to the criteria of this publication, as the reader knows well). There are millions of people in the world, very active musically lately and there are only 1,000 famous songs? What's the trick?

The trick is that this is like factoring a number into prime numbers: this task is very difficult for a normal (non-quantum) computer to do and all encryption algorithms today rely on this small flaw. So finding great songs, for the moment (and we hope it will be like this for a long time), is a task reserved only for certain lucky musicians who are able to do it, for example Paul McCartney of The Beatles.

So that's how things are, ladies and gentlemen. This presents several scenarios: that AI today and in the future proves clumsy when it comes to finding songs that are pleasing to the human ear, who may by chance find some interesting melody, or who has the ultimate trick to compose ALL the interesting melodies left to be discovered on the face of the earth for humans (this could coincide with the fact of the singularity; it is beyond the analysis of this article). At this point we can either give up on humanity, on the other hand, or it will be completely freed, or both.
