Frank Gehry, renowned architect-sculptor, dies

On December 5, 2025, just a few days ago, Frank Gehry, the renowned Canadian architect with a long and distinguished career and a vast body of work in the field of architecture, passed away.
In essence, he was a late successor to the freedom that Picasso had already instilled in his paintings and architectural works more than a century earlier. Therefore, his buildings were a kind of habitable sculpture, specializing specifically in altered forms and planes that collide with each other, giving the appearance that the building is broken or "deconstructed," much like other renowned architects who carried out this type of morphological transformation, such as Zaha Hadid and her prolific studio.
Among his works, two stand out that have been built on Spanish soil: the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, which shapes the entire city, and the Marqués de Riscal winery in the Rioja Alavesa region, built in the same architectural style.
In his field, in the "free" modernist style of architecture (now largely reserved for museums), he was one of the most prominent figures. So much so that he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize during his career.
