Important Japanese anime director Tsutomu Shibayama dies at 84

On March 6, 2026, approximately two weeks ago, the renowned Japanese anime director Tsutomu Shibayama passed away from lung cancer at the age of 84. He worked on numerous prestigious projects throughout his career.

Among them, he directed several episodes of the Doraemon television series, very popular in Spain and around the world, as well as the first season of the anime series Ranma 1/2.

He received several awards throughout his career, including the award from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of his native Japan.

All of us who love anime deeply mourn this significant loss.
