What are short dramas and what's all the fuzz about them?

A rather novel format is arriving from the East: short dramas, or micro-dramas (or whatever you want to call them). But what exactly are they, and why are they attracting so much media attention?
Essentially, short dramas are serials whose episodes last between one and three minutes. They rely on a direct and straightforward narrative, and each episode usually ends with a cliffhanger, a sudden plot twist, to build suspense and encourage viewers to continue watching the next episodes.
The format is certainly new and comes primarily from the East, specifically China, Singapore, and South Korea (not Japan). Interestingly, the essence of this format clashes somewhat with the calm and wisdom of Eastern culture, which in this case is disregarded in favor of highly addictive, fast-paced content.
The reality is that, in general, the artistic quality of these serials is low; In other words, they don't even take themselves seriously, so in the end, it becomes a series of unexpected twists that make up the whole of the show, preventing it from offering a solid "literary" experience and instead focusing specifically on meeting a demand very much in the style of American soap operas (either North American or South American).
Initially, they started using real actors, but now the bulk of the production has shifted to modern artificial intelligence because it significantly reduces costs.
The competition, and this is a contradiction, is perhaps the segment in which Netflix operates, paradoxically, since they try to offer "disposable" content in the sense that it's watched once and no one will ever try to watch it again. That's why they're perhaps impacting subscriptions to this aforementioned American streaming service, Netflix.
The truth is that, overall, we think there has to be a bit of everything, and following that scheme, these short dramas have occupied a non-existent space in the audiovisual world. We'll see if this takes hold in the West and what the trajectory of the whole movement is globally.
