To begin, let's invoke the old saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." In other words, if you're going to the beach, don't bother ordering a steak at the beach bar, for example; instead, order some fried fish, "which is what they've always done there."
After this brief overview, we can break down, point by point, some specific tips for a successful trip.
The first is to take an interest in and study the way of life of the country you're visiting. Learn as much as possible about its customs and traditions, so you can avoid making a mistake. Be cautious and moderate by default.
Second, be respectful of the culture of the country you're visiting. And we're not just talking about being "careful," that is, trying not to stain or physically damage things, but going further and, as we've said, being "respectful." In other words, in that country they may not be as nihilistic as we are in the West now, and they may have beliefs that require us to do more than just be careful; they also require us to show a little "decorum" with what we're visiting, and so on. For example, avoiding putting a little hat on a Buddha statue or something like that, or women covering themselves somewhat in temples if the entrance suggests it, and things like that.
It's important to stick to the established route, the tourist areas, and not separate from the group. This might seem silly, even obvious, but we all know that "cemeteries are full of intrepid souls," and being intrepid in the tourism sector isn't exactly a virtue. We know this will prevent us from experiencing firsthand the customs and true life of the country we're visiting, but we have to prioritize our own safety over seeking out "too authentic" experiences.
And with these simple tips, we're sure we'll have a successful trip.
