Dolly was a country music singer—and to a lesser extent, actress—who shaped her own public persona through a life deeply committed to various causes and, above all, through her great music.
There are many hit songs we can hum along to that she composed: from "Jolene" to "Coat of Many Colors," "9 to 5," and so on (these are already the essence of country music), and perhaps even some that transcend the genre and become global anthems, like "I Will Always Love You," which was the soundtrack to a film and was reinterpreted for that occasion.
Her only husband and constant support in her life passed away last year. She left us yesterday, having recently had to cancel some of her work commitments. Without a doubt, we have lost an artist who knew how to convey the best of herself through country music, from the USA, to the world.
