The Last Emperor
The Last Emperor
A 1987 film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci that masterfully narrates the life of Puyi, indeed the last emperor of China.

It premiered with great pomp and ceremony and won a string of nine Academy Awards; and rightly so, since both the story, which delves into the life of, as we have already mentioned, the last emperor of China, who went from being adored in his childhood to ending up as a simple gardener due to the establishment of the communist republic in his country, China; and all aspects of the film's cinematography are outstanding: from the film's locations (we know it was the first film authorized to shoot inside the Forbidden City in Beijing), to the costumes; as well as an excellent cast with the lead actor, John Lone (who plays adult Puyi), in one of the best performances in the cinema of his time.

Even in the music department, Hans Zimmer makes an appearance, contributing to the film's soundtrack early in his career.

For all these reasons, it's a great film, pure cinema, Cinema with a capital C, and thus becomes one of the great films of the 20th century.
