The Smurfs

A Franco-Belgian intellectual property that emerged from a series of comic strips created by Brussels-based cartoonist Peyo (Pierre Culliford) in the mid-20th century (their first appearance dates back to 1958, in the magazine "Le Journal de Spirou," as supporting characters in another comic strip).

The Smurfs now have a television series, various merchandising items, and several animated films, in addition to the comic strips themselves and countless other manifestations of popular culture.
