King Kong

King Kong
King Kong
A fictional character created by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace, that lends his name to an entire film franchise and stands as one of the most recognizable and influential icons in the history of cinema.

His story was established in the first film of the saga—released in 1933—which featured groundbreaking special effects for the time, an exceptional script penned by his creators, and a stellar cast, most notably "scream queen" Fay Wray. Ever since that debut, King Kong has delighted devoted cinephiles.

Following that initial film, many others featuring the character have been produced, including a recent remake directed by Peter Jackson.

Furthermore, he has served as an inspiration for other classic cinematic monsters, such as Godzilla—or, in the 21st century, El Megatoro.

In addition to holding the title of the "eighth wonder of the world" (as proclaimed in the original film itself), he also ranks—according to this publication—among those remarkable "imaginary wonders": characters or concepts that could only be defined and brought into existence by cinema as an art form.
