Last Sunday, world-renowned actor and film producer Tom Cruise received an honorary Oscar at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors ceremony, recognizing his more than 40-year career in film.
Although nominated for four Oscars, he had never won. However, his impact on cinema is indelible, as he has been making films for over 40 years, playing roles that are widely recognized by audiences worldwide. And we're not just talking about the Mission: Impossible franchise; Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, Eyes Wide Shut, and The Color of Money are just some of the films in which he has participated in one way or another.
It was Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu who presented the honorary statuette to the actor at the ceremony. Cruise said, among other things, "Making movies isn't what I do. It's who I am." And he was right.
