How to build a complete streaming platform with 1,000 euros and a bit of talent

In this piece, we will explore how to build a full-fledged streaming platform from scratch—with a budget of just 1,000 euros and a bit of talent (or, rather, a great deal of it), as the title suggests.

To create such a streaming platform, the first requirement is content—which means making films. So, that is exactly what we did: we set out to make movies, and our first ten feature-length films were produced with a total, actual budget of just over 1,000 euros.

Of course, in theory—or "on paper"—making these films would typically require far more capital. How did we compensate for the funds we didn't spend? Quite simply: we replaced money with talent. For instance, if producing ten animated films were to cost roughly 10 million euros—allocating 1 million euros per film, which is already well below the industry standard—and we managed to produce those same ten films for only 1,000 euros, then the difference between those two figures (10 million euros versus 1,000 euros) represents the value of the talent we contributed.

A quick side note: it is worth remembering—as one can easily discover online—that a "talent" was an ancient unit of measurement with monetary value (derived from the Greek word "talanton", meaning "balance" or "scale"). It also appears in the biblical Parable of the Talents. Furthermore—according to information found online—a talent held significant value; a single talent of silver, for example, was roughly equivalent to 20 years' worth of wages for a day laborer. We include this detail here because it serves as a fitting, metaphorical illustration for the ideas discussed in this article.

It is also the case that many streaming platforms feature a great deal of content that could best be described as "neither here nor there"—in other words, filler material that adds no value and attracts very few viewers. So, there you have it: there are two ways to build a streaming service—either spend ten million euros and add a dash of talent (if you happen to have any), or spend one thousand euros and fill the gap (up to that ten-million-euro mark) with whatever talent you possess. And that, as we say, is the approach Pedro Alonso Pablos has taken to all of this.
