Tales of the Alhambra

Set of stories and legends related to the Alhambra of Granada written by famous American writer Washington Irving.

They were written in the Alhambra itself since the writer moved there to recover the gossip and other stories related to the fortress. The original title in English was The Alhambra: a series of tales and sketches of the Moors and Spaniards, and later the author, together with the readers, from all over the world, have simplified the title and coined it as the work is currently known.

Although inspired by the stories that Washington himself collected during his stay in the fortification by hand of the inhabitants of it, there is no doubt that the inventiveness recognizable in the pen that wrote the work is due to the author; so much so that without counting Arabian Nights and the Tales of Grimm, this work represents, together with the stories of Hans Christian Andersen, the greatest single-person contribution to the literary genre in question, that is, the stories, within the framework of the universal literature.

This work has been adapted to the cinema by various Spanish producers and directors, among which Florián Rey with its adaptation of 1950 in which Carmen Sevilla participated, some works of the Basque cartoon director Juanba Berasategi, and the mini-animated series stand out by Pedro Alonso Pablos.
