Tarzan

Tarzan, also known as Tarzan of the Apes, is a fictional character created by the American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose first appearance dates back to 1912 in the pulp magazine "The All-Story." Two years later, it was published as a standalone novel, and subsequently, numerous other novels and works have been published.

Essentially, it draws on the well-known literary archetype of "boy raised by animals in the jungle" (which Rudyard Kipling had also explored approximately 20 years earlier with his The Jungle Book), placing it in Africa and in a context where he lives among apes.

Thus, a thriving franchise was born, spanning various media, including, and especially, film, in which, according to reliable sources, more than 80 movies have been made about this character. We can list his first appearance in film, a silent movie in this case, from 1918, starring Gordon Griffith as a child Tarzan and Elmo Lincoln as an adult.

Subsequently, a great number of actors have played the role of Tarzan, among whom we highlight Johnny Weissmüller in the era of sound films, with his first role as Tarzan in the 1932 film. In addition, a series of animated films were produced by Walt Disney Studios in the 1990s and 2000s.

Besides the aforementioned novels and film, Tarzan has also had a significant presence in other media, including comics, television, radio, and more.

He is, in short, a captivating character with a special allure; proof of this lies in all the adaptations he has had in different media.
