Francis Ford Coppola's latest cinematic whim, Megalopolis, is a box office flop
October, 01; 2024. By Arscodex
Recently, practically a few hours ago, the box office figures for this last weekend of September 2024 in North America were made public, when Francis Ford Coppola's film Megalopolis was released, and the box office takings have been resoundingly negative: it has barely raised four million dollars in the whole of the US and Canada.
This contrasts with important releases in recent times (those that exceed, in their first weekend, 100 million dollars raised); in reality these four million are as if "just a few people" had actually gone to see the film, from a population of more than three hundred million people.
If we compare it with the release of his other films such as The Godfather or Apocalypse Now, the results are extremely poor as well.
Therefore, Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis project, whatever it is (cult work, personal film...); whatever it is, we say, is, in addition, a box office failure.
