The renowned Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation studio founded by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, along with Toshio Suzuki and others, was awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities yesterday.

To this short list of names, we must add that of Joe Hisaishi, the prolific film composer who has left his musical mark on most of the studio's productions.

This collection of titles, some 20 or so, directly from these creators, of which about 10 or so were directed by Hayao Miyazaki himself (who has won several Academy Awards), forms a body of work of fantasy and creativity rarely seen, with a strong humanistic, inclusive, and anti-war spirit.

Studio Ghibli, as the reader may already know, is the company responsible for titles such as Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, and Princess Mononoke, among others.
